I make 2 lbs of beans twice a week in my crock pot; they are a substantial part of my diet. Did you know you don't have to pre-soak them? It's true. If you're using a crock pot, there's no time delay; if you're cooking them on the stove top, I think you have to add a little time, perhaps as little as 15 minutes. If you google on the subject, you may find the same site I did. I use a crock pot, so I don't pre-soak anymore.

Also, I wish I could afford Dave's bread! In truth, I could, but I can't bring myself to buy it. I did try it once. I buy el-cheapo bread every few weeks, just to have it on hand; but I make my own sourdough bread and that's most of what I consume, breadwise. You can make sourdough bread more cheaply than buying Dave's; I think it's even cheaper than Walmart brand, though I haven't compared prices. It's something to learn how to do, anyway; the way the economy's going, it's good to know how to make your own, and commercial yeast may not always be available.

I'm glad you're surviving. I hope the move goes well. I look forward to hearing about your container garden.
