I have been using the term "gender divergent" for some time. It does not, however, escape the philosophical problem that "transgender" poses. Generally speaking, I am not sanguine about changing terms to minimize hurt feelings; we live now in a cultural environment that prefers rhetoric to reason, and this practice only strengthens that preference.

The difference between "normal" and "normative" cannot be over-emphasized. Many people use the former to refer to both.
