This is a scarily good article.
"But when we come to peace with experiences we’re having and revel in the reality that we’re creating those experiences, we embrace our power."
Miriam Simos, writing as Starhawk, wrote about the difference between "power over" and "power within." I don't know that I use these terms exactly as she did; but I've always found the distinction to be of fundamental importance.
Power-over is political; it's about domination and control. Power-within is not; it focuses on expression of one's own nature. It does not rob others of their own "power-within," but merely expresses one's own. Power-within is greater than power-over; but this is something you have to discover for yourself. Perhaps this is the reason virtually no one with a platform in today's hyper-politicized environment sees power this way.
I think power-within may be closely related to what Hindus speak of when they refer to the Self that lies beyond the ego. In any case, embracing the path of power-within means departing from the path of power-over; and it's a scary choice. It seems so much easier to dominate and control one's situation, than to focus on self-expression. It's not, though. Domination and control requires relentless and unending pressure on that which you seek to dominate and control; and, eventually, you can't do it. In the meantime, all you've done is cause a lot of pain and suffering to others, as well as yourself.
Expression of the self does not rob others of their own freedom to do the same. "Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Love, therefore, is the fulfillment of the law." 😊
